Week 1! Coros Half Marathon Training Camp

It was a busy week across the board for me and kind of the first "full life" week I've had in a very long time. I've been using a Coros products since their first Lynx helmet was on Kickstarter and I currently use the Pace 2 watch to track all of my fitness and sleep. The products keep getting better, but so does the software and now there is a full blown training calendar to go with all of the metrics being tracked by the devices. I was picked to participate in a coach-led training camp for the half marathon distance, which kicked off this week. I had to fit the plan around everything I was already doing, but it all started with a fitness test run off of the Pace 2.

The test started with a tempo run for 25 minutes and the pace it was looking for was far too slow, so I ran at my own tempo pace. After that, the watch ran through 3 minute cycles, lowering the pace each time, until I reached maximum heart rate. The program definitely put me through the paces and kept asking me to run 1-2 more cycles to unlock any more potential. When I finished, the results were confirming of all of the training I've been doing. My fitness score jumped by over 8 points and my threshold pace dropped by 2 minutes!

The rest of the week went pretty smooth and while my training load was higher than what was assigned, I felt good through every workout. One thing to work on for this week will be stacking a strength day with a run workout so that I can get a rest day in there (spoiler: I'm taking a rest day today). So far, the program and feedback from my Coros coach has been super helpful. I've never had a running coach before so I'm looking forward to seeing how the 8 week program plays out in preparing me for the hardest race I've ever signed up for — The Big Sur Trail Half Marathon.
